This young family was expecting their second child and knew it was time for a bigger home—one that could grow with them and stay close to the helpful hands of grandparents. They found a sprawling house with tons of potential and asked us to turn it into a warm, approachable space that could handle the chaos of family life without sacrificing style. With high-end finishes, kid-friendly details, and subtle Portuguese-inspired touches from their travels, every corner was thoughtfully reimagined.
In the living room, floor-to-ceiling dry-stacked tile anchors the space, while rounded furnishings make it safe and playful for kids. Mirrored glass, walnut accents, and a touch of sparkle set the mood in the built-in bar, perfect for quiet evenings by the fireplace. Portuguese-inspired curves subtly appear in doorframes, niches, and ceiling beams, adding a repeated layer of charm throughout.
The fireplace seating area, visible from the dining room, entry, and kitchen, became a focal point. Textured wallpaper, brass accents, and moody blue millwork create a cozy, enveloping spot, while a large leather ottoman doubles as play space and cocktail perch. Curved chairs with mixed fabrics and brass nailheads add comfort and a little glamour.
The primary bedroom, an irregular wedge shape, was grounded with a paneled alcove for the bed. Crisscross ceiling beams draw the eye upward and anchor the central chandelier. Portuguese-inspired niches and soft, durable fabrics complete the seating area, and a chaise lounge by the fireplace offers a quiet spot to unwind.
The bathroom balances spa-like luxury with family practicality. A freestanding tub takes center stage, framed by the shower and vanity. White oak cabinetry, pull-out organizers, and integrated linen storage keep the space tidy, while spa features—rain showers, side sprays, temperature controls, and an adjacent sauna—create a full sensory retreat.
The kitchen was the real game-changer—this redesign didn’t just transform the space, it transformed the way the family lives. By removing the peninsula that bisected the room, we opened the space to the family room and introduced a large island for homework, cooking, and entertaining. Walnut and cream cabinetry, quartz countertops, zellige tile, and well-scaled ceiling beams blend durability with elegance. A sunny eat-in nook keeps the family near the pancake-flipper on weekend mornings, while a patterned rug hides everyday messes.
The office, formerly a living room, became a luxe work-from-home space with a seating area by the fireplace. Walnut herringbone floors with a brass inset, modernized columns, and Portuguese-inspired motifs keep it functional, beautiful, and cohesive. Pocket doors with a built-in pulley system offer privacy without cutting off light.
From the kitchen to the bedrooms, every detail at Rangeline Manor strikes the perfect balance of function, style, and family life. Thoughtful finishes, kid-friendly touches, and travel-inspired design influences come together to create a home that’s sophisticated yet livable, elegant yet approachable—a space designed to carry this family comfortably for years to come. The kitchen and powder room earned Gold at the Milwaukee Magazine Home & Design Awards, and the entire project was also recognized with an ASID Design Excellence Award—a true testament to how style and livability can go hand in hand.
