Cumberland Revival

A thoughtful renovation of a 1936 Stone Tudor designed to support modern living while preserving the character that made the home feel special from the start.

Owned by busy medical professionals with unconventional schedules, the home needed to work harder day to day. Cooking, baking, and frequent entertaining were central to the homeowners’ way of living, but the existing layout felt closed off and limiting. The goal was clear – improve flow, modernize key spaces, and keep the original details that gave the home its charm.

The scope focused on the kitchen, bar, primary bathroom, and closets, with additional updates throughout the dining room and primary bedroom. Each space was approached with care, balancing vintage-inspired details with cleaner lines and improved function.

Kitchen

The kitchen set the tone for the entire project. Designed for homemade pasta nights, baking days, and stress-free hosting, the new layout prioritizes movement, storage, and connection to adjacent spaces. Warm stained oak cabinetry, handmade ceramic tile, and a custom scalloped range hood bring depth, texture, and drama.

At the center of the space, a custom island inspired by a rare 1890s antique bank teller’s table nods to history in a way that feels natural and lived-in. The result is a kitchen that works hard while still feeling inviting, grounded, and timeless.

Dining

Gracious neighborhood hosts, our Cumberland Revival clients loved the original character of their historic home, but needed a more open flow between the kitchen and dining room for frequent entertaining.

Now connected instead of closed off, the spaces speak to each other. Earthy tones and mixed materials keep everything feeling lived-in, inviting, and ready for company.

Primary Bath and Bedroom

Upstairs, the primary bathroom was refreshed with a clean, updated approach. We optimized space to include a freestanding bathtub, a more open shower with a unique tile pattern, and a layout that feels calm and functional.

In the primary bedroom, original character was not only preserved but celebrated. A reclaimed wood beam was installed, a skip-trowel wall texture was carefully recreated, and original marble window sills were salvaged and reused. These details bring continuity to the home’s history while supporting the updated design.
