We love old homes around here.
The squeaky floors, the character-packed trim, the quirks you learn to love (or lovingly work around).
When we first stepped into this 1940s Cape Cod, it was clear the house had a soul worth saving. What it didn’t have was flow — a dark, cramped kitchen tucked in the back, a lonely dining room in the front, and a family of five doing their best to make it all work.
We knew this project wasn’t about erasing history — it was about weaving new chapters into an already beautiful story.
Our Swan Park Storybook project (featured this month in MKE Lifestyle!) began with a long, disjointed layout and a family dreaming of something lighter, brighter, and more connected — a place where they could cook, gather, and simply be together.

We followed the gentle curve of the original arched doorway and let it guide us — into a custom range alcove, a cozy banquette, and even the feet of the mudroom bench. We opened things up, let the light spill in, and created one seamless flow through the entire home.
And now?
This house hums with life again.
There’s a 10-foot island where Grandma always claims her favorite spot.
There’s natural wood mingling with painted cabinetry.
There’s sunlight dancing across the floors and laughter spilling from room to room.
There are shoes kicked off by the door and pancakes flipping on the stove.
Here’s to honoring the past while making room for what comes next. ✨
